A Study on the Cervical, Vaginal and Salivary Excretion of Radioactive Iodine(I^(131)) in the Various Thyroid Function States

Abstract
Radioactive iodine(1131) in doses of 30?50 ?c were orally given to 68 female thyroid patients consisted ,of 32 hyperthyroid, 28 euthyroid and 8 hypothyroid. The variations of 1131 percents excreted per dose through the cervican mucus, vaginal secretion and saliva according to the thyroid function states and also to the ovarian cycles were determined. Following were the results: -
1) The 1131 excreted though the cervical mucus, vaginal secretion and saliva varied according to the thyroid function states, namely, higher in the hypothyroid, lower in the hyperthyroid, and mediate in the euthyroid.
2) The 1131 excreted through the cervical mucus also varied according to the ovarian cycles, namely, higher in the luteal than in the follicular phase in ¢¥cases of the hypo-, and eu-thyroid. However, such a pattern was not observed in the hyperthyroid.
3) The I131 excreted through saliva were about 4 times higher than that through the cervical mucus at 13 hours intervals.
